Teenage girl dies in scooter collision in Laurentians

A collision between a delivery truck and a scooter carrying two teenagers left one dead and one injured on Friday evening in Saint-Hippolyte, in the Laurentians.

The passenger on the moped died, but as of Saturday morning, the other teenager, who was driving, was no longer in critical condition. He had been released from the hospital, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), despite his condition being considered critical when he was transported there.

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Route 333, at the intersection of Rue de la Montagne, explained Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the SQ.

The truck followed the moped north for several kilometers before the moped slowed down and started driving on the white line of the shoulder.

Thinking it would be given the right of way, the truck continued on its way, but the moped then allegedly made a maneuver by veering to the left and collided with the truck.

The moped driver was ejected and the passenger ended up under the wheels of the truck.

The young girl was confirmed dead at the hospital, while the young man, also a minor, was initially in critical condition late in the evening.

Reconstruction specialists and investigators from the Sûreté du Québec went to the scene of the collision to analyze the scene.
