Man flees, crashes into tree after licence plate reader shows he had no insurance: VPD

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a prohibited driver has been arrested after an Automatic Licence Plate Reader alerted them that he had no insurance.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle near Howe and Robson in downtown Vancouver, the VPD says.

“The driver fled through an underground parking garage,” it said.

“As the vehicle exited the parking garage at Hornby and Robson, the driver struck a tree.”

Police say they were then able to arrest him “without further incident.”

The 30-year-old man was injured in the crash and taken to hospital. He was released and a court date will be set at a later date, the VPD says.

“The investigation is ongoing and numerous charges will be recommended.”
