Technical problems in accessing Quebec ministry exams results leaves students, parents frustrated

Quebec high school students and parents had more than their share of a nail-biter Tuesday as technical problems delayed accessing the online portal for results of the ministry exams.

Thousands of students were unable to login to the ministry’s website for several hours Tuesday.

In a statement to CityNews, Education Ministry spokesperson Bryan St-Louis, said the issues were resolved “by late afternoon.”

The cause of the website outage is still under investigation.

Social media was rife with parents and students reporting anxiety amid the delay and a looming deadline to apply for make-up exams.

One user said, “If the Ministry of Education is judging itself by its website for checking our children’s grades, there’s a lot of work to be done. Even checking our children’s grades is a real challenge. I’m so discouraged!!!!”

While several parents said they were on the boat in response to another’s post expressing anxiety.

In a post on X Tuesday afternoon acknowledging the issues, Education Minister Sonia LeBel said, “We fully understand the frustration of students and their parents who are trying to check the results online, without success.”

“The ministry’s teams are working actively to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”

Examens ministériels: Nous comprenons parfaitement la frustration des élèves et de leurs parents qui tentent de consulter les résultats en ligne, sans y parvenir. Les équipes du ministère travaillent activement afin de résoudre la situation le plus rapidement possible.

St-Louis said the ministry asked school officials to directly contact students how failed their exams to minimize the impact on students.

“This approach was intended to ensure prompt follow-up and to inform them of the steps to take, particularly regarding registration for a summer course or a make-up exam,” St-Louis added.

Official transcripts are expected to be mailed out in the next few weeks.
