Firefighters rushed to the scene of a blaze at an apartment building on 4th Avenue in New Westminster, creating a scene of urgency and heroism. New Westminster Mayor, Patrick Johnstone, took to social media to alert residents of the significant fire in the Brow of the Hill area, leading to the closure of a section of Fourth Avenue.
The fire prompted daring balcony rescues by the dedicated fire crews from New West and Burnaby, as they battled to contain the flames ravaging through the structure. BC Emergency Health Services tended to those affected, providing critical medical assistance to four individuals, with three requiring hospitalization.
Chief Erin Williams of New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service praised the swift response of crews, detailing the intense efforts to combat the fire and ensure the safety of residents.
