The RCMP swiftly apprehended a suspect in connection with an alleged robbery at a Burnaby business within minutes of the incident.
According to authorities, the police were alerted to the situation at a business close to Lougheed Highway and Sperling Avenue at approximately 7:20 a.m. on July 17. The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect, who attempted to flee on foot and then on a bike before the arrival of law enforcement.
Within just nine minutes, officers managed to locate and apprehend the suspect just west of Kensington Avenue. However, the arrest did not go without its challenges, as the suspect initially resisted obeying police commands, leading to a brief foot chase.
Despite the resistance, the suspect was eventually taken into custody on a grassy area adjacent to Lougheed Hwy. All stolen items were recovered, along with the suspect’s belongings.
The apprehended individual, identified as a 40-year-old resident of Burnaby, is facing potential charges including robbery, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of probation.
