The leader of the Bloc Québécois, Yves-François Blanchet, fell victim to a hacking incident on the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Two suspicious posts promoting cryptocurrencies were discovered on Blanchet’s compromised account.
Confirming the security breach, Blanchet’s press secretary, Joanie Riopel, advised the public to refrain from clicking on any cryptocurrency-related links shared on the account. The Bloc Québécois emphasized the importance of vigilance until further updates are provided.
The fraudulent posts showcased Blanchet claiming to have profited significantly from cryptocurrency investments, but inconsistencies in the messages raised suspicion. For instance, the currency references fluctuated between euros and Canadian dollars, and Blanchet was incorrectly referred to using feminine pronouns in one of the posts.
Notably, a similar unauthorized post had previously appeared on Blanchet’s account, which was promptly removed by his team. The Bloc Québécois is seeking prompt assistance from X officials to address the breach efficiently.
