“Pediatrician at SickKids Hospital Stripped of License Following Arrest on Child Exploitation Charges”

The regulatory body overseeing the medical field in Ontario has taken action against a doctor at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children following his arrest on charges connected to child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

According to the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dilan Dissanayake’s medical license has been suspended, with an interim order issued promptly after his arrest. The charges against him are detailed on the college’s website, along with the terms of his bail that restrict his interactions with minors, except for his own children.

In response to the situation, a representative from the college explained that in cases where a doctor poses a risk of harm to patients, immediate suspension can be implemented by the inquiries committee without prior notice.

Toronto police have charged the 44-year-old Dissanayake with offenses related to accessing and possessing child sexual abuse material. They have clarified that there is no indication that the material in question is linked to his medical practice.

SickKids Hospital expressed deep distress and disapproval of the alleged actions of Dr. Dissanayake in a statement, stating that he was placed on leave as soon as the investigation came to light.

Dissanayake, whose specialties are in rheumatology and pediatrics, earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 2014.
