Numerous Quebec Residents Still Without Power After Storms
As the sun rose on Wednesday, a significant number of Quebec residents found themselves in the dark following a night of intense thunderstorms that swept through the province.
According to Hydro-Québec, approximately 46,000 customers were plunged into darkness on Tuesday evening due to the storm’s impact. While the numbers have since decreased, around 13,000 homes and businesses were still without electricity at 7:30 a.m., with the Laurentians bearing the brunt with over 4,200 affected addresses.
Regions like Bas-Saint-Laurent and Lanaudière also grappled with widespread outages, although the situation had improved for most residents in Montérégie by morning.
In Saint-Hyacinthe, a transformer substation issue led to a power interruption affecting more than 15,000 customers, prompting emergency repair efforts to restore service.
The storm, which brought heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts as warned by Environment Canada, played a significant role in causing the scattered outages that continue to impact communities across southern Quebec.
