Pride Celebrations in Montreal Enter 20th Year with Enhanced Security Measures
Fierté Montréal, the organizer behind the vibrant Pride festivities, is marking its 20th anniversary with a colorful array of events starting this Friday.
In light of recent safety concerns following an incident at Berlin Pride, organizers have bolstered security measures to ensure a safe and joyful celebration. Vehicle barriers are set to line key intersections along Sainte-Catherine Street East in the Village and René-Lévesque Boulevard during the Pride parade to safeguard the event from unauthorized access.
The festivities promise a diverse lineup of activities ranging from drag shows and music performances to reflections on the city’s 2SLGBTQ+ heritage, queer literature exhibitions, and a bustling artisan market. An intriguing art exhibit titled “The Coming Out of Montreal’s Gay Village” will delve into the political, cultural, and social evolution of the Village from 1974 to 1990.
The 10-day celebration will feature talented artists and performers such as Calamine, Velma Jones, J4de, Monib, DJ Sam Pangina Heals, and Rita Baga, offering a mix of entertainment that encapsulates the spirit of Pride.
The highlight of the festivities will be the Pride Parade on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m., starting along Réné-Lévesque Boulevard downtown and culminating with a spectacular show at the Olympic Park Esplanade.
