A vibrant new community hub has opened its doors in Vancouver’s Riley Park area, offering a blend of affordable housing, childcare, and enriching programs all in one place. Nestled on East 36th Avenue, this six-story building is a beacon of hope for the neighborhood.
With 48 affordable rental homes spanning from cozy studios to spacious three-bedroom units, the development caters to a diverse range of families. Little Mountain Neighbourhood House, located within the building, will provide 69 much-needed childcare spaces, supporting working parents in the area.
Mayor Ken Sim hailed the project as a crucial step in meeting the needs of the community, emphasizing the importance of affordable housing, childcare, and essential services. He noted that this initiative goes beyond just providing homes; it is an investment in the future of the neighborhood.
Managed by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Affordable Housing Society, the housing units offer a mix of affordable options, ensuring that residents from various income levels can find a secure place to call home. Ryan Drew, chief program officer at S.U.C.C.E.S.S., highlighted the significance of the development in fostering a strong sense of community and belonging.
According to Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., having stable housing is a cornerstone for individuals and families to flourish and engage actively in community activities. The project also boasts a community plaza overseen by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, featuring a captivating public art installation by acclaimed artist Susan Point.
As the Little Mountain Neighbourhood House prepares to open this fall and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. gears up to lease the affordable housing units in the months ahead, the community eagerly anticipates the positive impact this new hub will have on residents’ lives.
