A 22-year-old man hailing from Kitchener finds himself in legal trouble as he faces charges linked to a drug trafficking probe.
Windsor police disclosed that Ziyad Shiekhai was apprehended on Friday following reports of suspicious drug-related activities within a restaurant restroom close to Goyeau Street and University Avenue.
Detectives stated in a press release on Sunday that, after gathering information from witnesses and scrutinizing video footage, they were able to establish a clear description of the suspect.
Shortly thereafter, law enforcement officers spotted a man resembling the suspect near the junction of Park Street and Pelissier Street. When approached by the police, Shiekhai reportedly attempted to escape on foot but was eventually apprehended.
An investigation post-arrest led to the confiscation of around 55 grams of suspected cocaine and various other substances believed to be under control, pending analysis. Additionally, authorities seized over $1,300 in cash, a pocketknife, digital scale, and two cell phones.
Shiekhai now faces charges of possession of a Schedule 1 substance with intent to traffic.
