The body of a man who had gone missing for two weeks was discovered in the St. Lawrence River near Marsoui in the Gaspé–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region on Sunday morning, just before 10:30 a.m.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was informed of the body’s finding by a member of the public.
The man was later identified as Pepito Labador, a 45-year-old resident of Montreal who had been reported missing since July 19.
Two days prior to the discovery, emergency services had been summoned to respond to a distress call regarding two individuals near kilometer 914 of Route 132 on the St. Lawrence River in the Marsoui area.
According to details provided by the SQ, the two men were fishing on a rocky outcrop when one of them slipped and fell into the water. The other man tried to assist but was also swept away by the current. Tragically, both men lost their lives in the incident.
