The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) has issued expanded evacuation orders due to the ongoing threat posed by the Bradley Creek Wildfire in the Head of the Lake area.
The evacuation order now covers the region north of Bonneau Road and south of Highway 97, as well as all residents along Head of the Lake Road on the opposite side of the lake.
Furthermore, authorities have mandated the immediate evacuation of Hawhola Road and all properties up to the OKIB IR 1 boundary.
Residents impacted by the evacuation order are advised to head to designated evacuation reception centres based on their specific location.
For those residing north of Head of the Lake, the evacuation centre is set up at Kal Tire Place in Vernon, situated at 3445 43rd Ave. Meanwhile, residents living south of the area are instructed to proceed to the Westbank Lions Club at 2466 Main St. in West Kelowna.
Emergency officials are emphasizing the importance of prompt evacuation for all individuals within the affected zone, urging them to adhere to the instructions provided by authorities.
The decision to expand the evacuation zone comes as firefighting crews work diligently to contain the Bradley Creek Wildfire, heightening concerns regarding public safety and the potential impact on nearby communities.
