A local driver in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield is facing serious consequences after being caught driving nearly double the speed limit on Highway 530.
The incident took place on the afternoon of August 1, when officers from the MRC de Beauharnois–Salaberry station were monitoring speeds on Highway 530 West. According to police reports, they stopped a driver who was speeding at 175 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
The driver, a man from the area, received a staggering $1,543 speeding fine and had 14 demerit points added to his driving record. Additionally, his driver’s license was suspended for seven days as per Quebec’s penalties for excessive speeding.
