Highway 1 Closure Due to Wildfire Activity in Boston Bar Area, Landslide Cleared for Firefighters
Highway 1 in the Boston Bar area remains off-limits to the public as wildfire incidents persist, with emergency crews managing to clear a landslide that had obstructed access for firefighters.
A slope failure triggered by the wildfire on Sunday resulted in trees and rocks blocking the highway near the China Bar Tunnel, posing risks and impeding the movement of BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) personnel in the region.
Recent images display the debris being moved aside, allowing firefighters and emergency responders to navigate through the area safely.
BCWS spokesperson Sam Bellion assured, “Although the risk of slope instability remains, our teams can still utilize Highway 1 as needed for operations.”
Despite the successful clearance operation, the highway remains shut down to regular traffic.
The closure, spanning approximately 64.1 kilometres between Toll Road and Jackass Summit, is being strictly enforced and inaccessible to through traffic.
Emergency units are maintaining vigilance over the area due to ongoing wildfire threats and concerns about slope stability.
