At the scene in Scarborough, a Toronto Fire representative shared with CityNews that another probe is ongoing at the Wellesley high-rise following reports of smoke emanating from a unit on the 19th floor around 10:30 a.m.
According to the spokesperson, the fire was triggered by a cooking-related mishap, affecting one resident. Fortunately, the blaze has been extinguished and confined to a single unit, as verified by Toronto Fire personnel.
Meanwhile, on an earlier timeline, a separate fatal fire transpired at a 20-story structure in Scarborough. Emergency responders were summoned just before 8 a.m. to address a fully engulfed fire on the 16th floor, leading to the tragic death of one individual at the scene.
Preceding these incidents, a separate alarming event took place overnight at another building in St. James Town. A fire on the eighth floor left four individuals injured, including a man with second-degree burns. While two children were briefly hospitalized, they were later discharged.
