Ford Races to Aid Flood-Hit Ontario Towns Amid State of Emergency

Ontario Premier Doug Ford meets with mayors of flood-hit Niagara Region municipalities

Ontario Premier Doug Ford recently held meetings with the mayors of two municipalities in the Niagara Region that are currently under states of emergency due to severe flooding.

Taking to social media, Ford expressed that he had personally listened to the challenges faced by workers and residents affected by the recent floods in St. Catharines and the neighboring town of Lincoln.

The declaration of states of emergency in both areas came after consecutive storms unleashed a total of 250 millimetres of rainfall within a week, significantly surpassing the region’s typical annual precipitation levels.

The excessive rainfall resulted in extensive flooding, affecting numerous homes and businesses in the region. St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe had previously called for assistance from the provincial and federal authorities, highlighting the city’s struggle to cope with the aftermath of the storms.

In response to the situation, a representative for Ontario’s Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response affirmed that the province was evaluating the extent of the floods to determine their eligibility for the disaster recovery program.
