Get ready for a mix of heat, humidity, and thunderstorms as we head into the upcoming weekend. Today in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), temperatures peaked at 29 degrees Celsius, but with the added humidity, it felt more like 34 to 37 degrees.
The dew point temperature, an indicator of how muggy the air is, is currently at 16 degrees, but it is expected to rise to 21 degrees by tomorrow, signaling an increase in humidity levels.
CityNews’ chief meteorologist, Natasha Ramsahai, forecasts temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with the humidity making it feel even warmer, reaching the mid-to-high 30s.
Thunderstorms are on the horizon for Toronto, particularly on Thursday. Early morning, isolated weak storms are expected north of the city in cottage country, with more anticipated to develop in the afternoon.
Ramsahai warns of scattered storms and showers later in the day, triggered by afternoon sunshine. These storms will be isolated, meaning some areas may experience heavy downpours while others remain dry.
The pop-up showers are likely to diminish by early evening on Thursday but will return on Friday morning, persisting on and off throughout the day. Festival attendees on Friday night should be mindful of potential storm risks lingering until the evening hours.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday may see some isolated showers and thunderstorms, while Sunday is shaping up to be a more favorable day, despite the forecasted sporadic showers.
The humid conditions will persist through the weekend before a refreshing change on Monday, with humidity levels gradually dropping throughout the day.
Ramsahai assures that a cooler and more comfortable week awaits next week, with temperatures expected to be below seasonal averages, providing relief for those without air conditioning.
