A 16-year-old boy faced off with Toronto police, pointing a loaded gun at officers during a recent firearms investigation. Members of the Toronto Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) located the teen in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area on Thursday, Aug. 6. As the officers tried to apprehend him, the youth brandished the firearm, prompting a swift response that led to his arrest without any injuries.
Authorities confiscated a loaded gun, oxycodone, and cash during the operation. The young suspect, shielded by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is now burdened with multiple charges including possession of a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and drug trafficking offenses.
The incident stemmed from a previous encounter on July 15 in the Driftwood Avenue and Finch Avenue West vicinity. Allegedly, the boy and an accomplice fled upon spotting a police cruiser, resulting in a chase. During the pursuit, officers witnessed one of them discarding a firearm, leading to the recovery of dangerous weapons and the arrest of Shevontae Stewart-Wilson, 21, who faced weapon-related charges.
It is believed that the arrested teen from the recent incident was the second suspect involved in the earlier encounter. Despite injuries sustained by officers during the arrest, law enforcement successfully brought the young offender into custody.
