Two corrections officers and an inmate tragically lost their lives during a transfer at a women’s facility, as confirmed by Prison officials.
The sad news was shared by Correctional Service Canada via social media on Thursday. While details regarding the circumstances of the deaths have not been disclosed, the incident was referred to as a “tragic accident.”
Situated in the west end of the city, the Edmonton Institution for Women is a multi-level prison that houses both minimum- and medium-security inmates.
Expressions of sympathy and support have poured in from various regions, including Newfoundland and Labrador, following the unfortunate event. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also extended his condolences, emphasizing the invaluable role correctional officers play in ensuring the safety of Canadians.
