York Regional Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two individuals believed to be responsible for setting fire to two vehicles in a Markham neighborhood. The incident took place in the early hours of July 24 on Gatcombe Circle.
Upon receiving reports of a fire at 2:13 a.m., emergency responders arrived to find one vehicle fully engulfed in flames, while the trunk of a second vehicle was also on fire. Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services quickly extinguished the blaze and determined that the fires were deliberately set.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire did not spread to any nearby residences. Surveillance footage obtained by investigators captured two suspects, one carrying a jerry can, walking along Gatcombe Drive just after 2 a.m. The footage shows them fleeing the scene shortly afterward.
A dark-colored sedan, believed to be associated with the suspects, was observed driving on Gatcombe Drive around the time of the incident. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects or the vehicle involved is urged to contact York Regional Police.
