As the election season heats up, a recent voter intention survey reveals that a majority of Quebec residents are seeking a change in leadership for the province over the next four years. Despite a resurgence in support for the current governing party, Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), led by Premier Christine Fréchette, 60% of Quebecers are inclined towards a shift in leadership.
The findings of the latest poll conducted by Léger–Le Journal–TVA and released on Tuesday indicate a growing determination among voters as they firm up their choices leading up to the election day on Oct. 5.
The Parti Québécois (PQ) continues to hold the top position with 29% of voter support, closely followed by the CAQ at 23% and the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) at 22%. The Quebec Conservative Party (PCQ) garnered 15% of voter preference, while Québec solidaire (QS) stood at 10%.
In a notable development, outgoing Premier Christine Fréchette and Paul St-Pierre Plamondon of the CAQ were tied at 23% as the favored candidate to become the next premier. This signifies a significant increase of five percentage points for Fréchette since the previous month, with many voters commending her for a strong campaign performance and her adept handling of challenges like the U.S-Canada trade conflict and economic issues.
On the other hand, Plamondon emerged as the preferred leader on immigration matters, securing 25% of voter confidence in his ability to manage this crucial area.
The survey results are derived from an online poll conducted among 1,008 Quebec voters from September 4 to 6.
