Two hunters in the Cariboo region of British Columbia have admitted to hunting without regard for the safety of others, as confirmed by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.
The incident took place on October 8, 2022, when Kristen Johnny and Colin Williams trespassed into a privately owned field for hunting purposes.
According to conservation officers, the duo illegally accessed the property between 10:44 p.m. and 11:08 p.m., well past the permitted hunting hours that end at sunset, which occurred at 6:31 p.m. on that day.
During their unauthorized hunt, Johnny and Williams shot and killed a mule deer buck on the property.
In a recent court appearance at Williams Lake provincial court, both individuals pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.
As a consequence, the hunters were fined $2,500 each and were directed to pay a victim surcharge of $375.
