Sun Youth Opens Community Kitchen to Promote Food Autonomy and Inclusion
Sun Youth, a prominent organization in Montreal, has recently inaugurated a community kitchen in partnership with Food Banks of Quebec. This new addition to their facilities aims to not only prepare meals but also host cooking activities, culinary workshops, and training sessions for individuals and families in need.
The primary goal of this initiative is to foster food autonomy, social inclusion, and community reintegration. By collaborating with other organizations that have collective kitchens, Sun Youth’s executive director, Marina Boulos-Winton, envisions a space where people from various neighborhoods can come together to learn how to prepare affordable meals using resources like community gardens and food banks.
Located within Sun Youth’s premises, the Shared Kitchen is set to cater primarily to the beneficiaries of Sun Youth’s food programs, sports activities, and day camps. This new facility represents the 15th Metro Shared Kitchen established to support communities in need across the region.
