The York Regional Police have shared body-cam footage capturing a dramatic moment where an officer surprises a motorcyclist who tried to evade an accident scene, leading to a tackle.
In a witty social media post, the YRP humorously mentioned their officers being excited about the return of the NFL. The incident unfolded on August 9, around 1:42 p.m.
Following a collision, the motorcyclist was instructed to return to the scene for exchanging information. However, he opted to flee despite being informed of his arrest.
The video reveals an officer spotting the motorcyclist parked by the roadside near 16th Avenue and Mutual Street. As the officer approaches, he comments to dispatch that the motorcyclist seems to be provoking them.
Unaware of the officer’s presence, the motorcyclist remains seated on his bike. The officer stealthily approaches and swiftly tackles him, placing him in handcuffs on the ground.
Describing it as a “beautiful form tackle with a blindside approach,” the YRP added a playful touch by quoting a football rule about keeping an eye out.
Later in the footage, an officer showcases the suspect’s personalized license plate reading “Run This,” revealing it to be unauthorized upon verification.
The suspect now faces charges including failure to stop after an accident, fleeing from a police officer, driving without insurance, involvement in an accident, failure to reveal insurance details, and using an unauthorized license plate.
