A young man from Burnaby, aged 21, was apprehended after a serious assault occurred at the housing facilities of North Island College in Courtenay during the early hours of a Wednesday morning.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received several reports of an attack involving a sharp weapon just before 1 a.m. on the college premises.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found two individuals injured and promptly arrested a suspect linked to the incident.
Both victims were taken to the hospital for medical attention and are anticipated to make a full recovery from their wounds.
Throughout Wednesday, the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit was on-site at the college, collecting crucial evidence. The Island District Forensic Identification Section was also called in to provide assistance.
Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP stated, “The investigation is still in its preliminary phases, and our officers are actively working to uncover all the details surrounding this troubling occurrence.”
Terragni mentioned that investigators are currently trying to ascertain the motive behind the assault.
The accused individual remains in custody and is awaiting a court hearing.
