A woman was hospitalized after an unprovoked assault in downtown Vancouver on Tuesday, leading to charges against a man involved in the incident.
The Vancouver Police Department reported that the attack took place at the corner of Hastings and Seymour streets while the woman was walking in the vicinity.
Allegedly, a man approached her and struck her in the abdomen before leaving the scene. The victim was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries.
Thanks to a quick-thinking witness who called 911 and trailed the suspect, the authorities were able to swiftly apprehend the individual responsible.
William Pitt, aged 49, has been formally charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm by the VPD.
Pitt is currently in police custody.
