The Nanaimo police are currently looking into a tragic collision that took place in downtown Nanaimo on Wednesday morning. The incident involved a commercial fuel tanker and a pedestrian.
Authorities were alerted to the scene at the Co-op Gas Bar on 60 Victoria Crescent around 6:46 a.m. Initial reports suggest that a gasoline semi-truck tanker was in the process of reversing into the parking lot when it struck a pedestrian who was found near the curb between the sidewalk and the parking area, either sitting or lying down.
Tragically, the pedestrian, a 42-year-old woman, lost her life due to the injuries sustained in the collision. The police have identified the woman and are currently reaching out to her family to provide necessary support during this difficult time.
Sgt. Kris Clark of the BC RCMP stated, “The circumstances of this heartbreaking incident are still being investigated, with our team diligently collecting evidence to ascertain the exact sequence of events.”
In addition to the police inquiry, the BC Coroners Service has initiated its own investigation into the tragic death.
