Durham Regional Police have arrested three teenage girls following an incident that occurred on an eastbound Lakeshore East GO Train ride earlier this month. The situation escalated when a group of five female youths, who were reportedly drinking alcohol and acting disorderly, harassed passengers on Saturday, Sept. 12.
According to reports, the disturbance began when three passengers requested the group to behave appropriately. This request led to verbal threats and continued harassment, with one of the teens allegedly assaulting a female passenger. Upon reaching Whitby GO Station, the group further aggravated the situation by throwing a bottle of alcohol at the victims before departing. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the altercation.
Through video footage and witness accounts, authorities were able to apprehend the three suspects without any issues. Among the accused are a 13-year-old girl and two others aged 15 and 16. The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were prohibited from communicating with each other at the time due to court orders.
Charges against the girls include causing a disturbance, disobeying court orders, and failing to comply with probation orders. The 16-year-old is facing additional charges of assault, assault with a weapon, and further breaches of probation orders.
The teenagers, all hailing from Oshawa, remained anonymous under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and were released under conditions outlined in an undertaking.
