Colorful boats glided across the water as paddles rhythmically sliced through the waves in Lachine, Montreal on a vibrant Saturday. The BDO Cedars CanSupport Dragon Boat Race celebrated its 21st year, attracting 24 teams and close to 1,000 attendees to the city’s premier dragon boat festival fundraiser.
This annual event is the main fundraising initiative for Cedars CanSupport, a vital program at the Cedars Cancer Center that has been offering free comprehensive support to cancer patients and their families for over 35 years. Teams of 20 paddlers were tasked with raising a minimum of $20,000 each to participate in the lively dragon boat races.
Every dollar collected from the race directly contributed to Cedars CanSupport, aiding in the provision of essential programs and services designed to enhance the well-being of cancer patients and their loved ones. The day’s activities also featured a touching ceremony where cancer survivor teams honored those who lost their lives to the disease by placing flowers on the water, fostering a moment of solemn reflection amidst the excitement of the festival.
This event not only united participants in spirited competition but also provided invaluable support to individuals and families navigating the complexities of cancer.
