Montreal authorities are currently looking into a recent case of arson that occurred at a restaurant situated on Verdun Street near Second Avenue in the Verdun district.
The incident was reported to police around 2:30 a.m. by a vigilant citizen who noticed a fire blazing at the restaurant. Law enforcement swiftly arrived at the scene and managed to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher, with support from the Montreal Fire Department.
As part of the inquiry, witnesses were interviewed to gather information about the events leading up to the fire.
Preliminary findings suggest that an individual allegedly hurled an incendiary device towards the restaurant, resulting in a small fire igniting within the premises.
As a safety measure, residents living in apartments above the restaurant were evacuated, although they were eventually permitted to return home once the situation was under control.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the damage is believed to be minimal, as confirmed by the police.
At present, no suspects have been apprehended, and the case has been assigned to the arson unit of the Montreal Police for further investigation.
