The Laval police recently apprehended a 19-year-old individual for using counterfeit money in a transaction on Facebook Marketplace earlier this year.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as Alexandre Vixamar, allegedly handed over nine fake $100 bills to purchase an iPhone on the online platform. However, the deception was uncovered when the seller tried to deposit the money at a bank and discovered the bills were counterfeit.
Vixamar is now facing multiple charges, including fraud, producing and distributing fake currency, and violating legal orders. Following his court appearance, he has been detained and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 25.
Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact the Laval police. The incident has shed light on a growing issue of fake currency circulating in the Laval region, prompting the police to share advice on how to verify the authenticity of bills.
