Canadians Embrace Supporting Local with New Website
Canadians have been increasingly interested in buying Canadian products in response to international conversations. Vancouver resident Tomáš Švec recognized this trend and decided to create a solution.
trycanadian.ca is Švec’s brainchild, a platform designed to inform consumers about the Canadian authenticity of products and offer alternative Canadian options. Seeing a gap in the market, Švec felt compelled to step in and provide a more comprehensive resource for buyers.
Currently, the website features listings of 600 to 700 U.S. companies alongside their Canadian counterparts. Švec diligently researches company backgrounds, including ownership, location, and manufacturing details, to present the information in a user-friendly format. He continues to expand the database by adding approximately 40 new companies daily.
While other shopping apps focusing on Canadian-made goods have faced criticism for their criteria, Švec aims to simplify the process for consumers. Instead of dictating purchasing decisions, trycanadian.ca empowers users with transparent information to make informed choices.
By highlighting discrepancies like a product claiming to be Canadian but having foreign origins upon closer inspection, the website educates users and suggests Canadian alternatives.
Švec emphasizes that the site is a free resource for all users, with no barriers to accessing valuable information on product origins. He envisions trycanadian.ca as a tool to support and promote buying Canadian products.
