Planning Your Weekend Commute in Toronto: Service Adjustments Ahead
Traveling around certain parts of Toronto this weekend will require some extra foresight, as significant service changes are scheduled for two GO train lines and a segment of a TTC subway route.
The city’s downtown core is set to buzz with activity, drawing crowds to events such as Blue Jays games at the Rogers Centre, concerts by Weezer, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shaboozey, Logic, and G-Eazy at various venues like Scotiabank Arena and the RBC Amphitheatre. Alongside these, an array of festivals and gatherings are lined up across Toronto. Be prepared to allocate ample time and maintain your patience amidst the closures.
On Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27, there will be no subway service on Line 1 Yonge-University between Finch and Sheppard-Yonge stations for essential signal maintenance work.
The service interruption kicks off at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, and will continue until the end of service on Sunday, Sept. 27, during which shuttle buses will fill in for subway operations between the affected stations.
While all subway stations will remain accessible for customers to acquire or top up a PRESTO card, PRESTO Ticket, and transfer to surface routes, it’s crucial to plan your commute ahead.
Additionally, GO Transit service between Rouge Hill and Danforth GO will be halted on Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27, due to planned construction.
During this time, GO trains will operate on an hourly basis between Durham College Oshawa and Ajax, with GO buses running from Ajax to Pickering GO and then directly to Union Station.
Keep in mind that Friday, Sept. 25, will also see some late-night service adjustments.
Furthermore, on Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27, there will be no GO train service on the Stouffville line because of ongoing construction, with buses replacing train service.
GO buses will service all stops from Old Elm to Unionville GO before proceeding directly to Union Station. Please note that there will be no GO services at Milliken, Agincourt, and Kennedy GO, prompting commuters to explore alternative TTC options.
