A man, aged 50, is in critical condition after being attacked while attempting to break up a fight in Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension early Thursday morning.
According to Montreal police (SPVM), the incident occurred at Pie-IX Boulevard and 44th Street around 1:35 a.m. when officers responded to a call about an unconscious man.
The victim, along with another individual, intervened in the altercation, leading to the victim being assaulted multiple times.
Multiple individuals were involved in the altercation, resulting in the victim sustaining life-threatening injuries. He was swiftly taken to the hospital for treatment.
The assailants fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of law enforcement, and no arrests have been made as of now.
Authorities have established a perimeter at the location, and investigations are underway to ascertain the details of the incident, gather witness statements, and review surveillance footage.
