Two individuals have been found guilty in connection with a tragic double homicide that occurred outside a hotel in Whistler in 2022, announced the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) on Tuesday.
On July 24, 2022, the Sea-to-Sky Whistler RCMP responded to reports of a shooting at a hotel on Sundial Crescent, where two men were targeted and shot. Tragically, one victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the other passed away later in the hospital.
Following the incident, law enforcement detained multiple suspects and discovered a burning vehicle on Ptarmigan Place near Blueberry Drive, which was linked to the shooting.
The victims, identified as 28-year-old Meninder Dhaliwal and 36-year-old Satindera Gill, were targeted in what investigators believe to be a gang-related attack.
Subsequently, Gursimran Sahota and Tanvir Khakh were arrested and charged with first-degree murder the following day. After being in custody since their arrests, both men were recently found guilty by a jury on Sept. 25, 2026. Sahota was convicted of first-degree murder in Dhaliwal’s case and second-degree murder in Gill’s case, while Khakh was acquitted in relation to Gill’s death.
IHIT stated that Sahota’s first-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years, and the second-degree murder conviction comes with a life sentence, with a jury recommendation of 20 years before parole eligibility.
A sentencing hearing is expected to be arranged in the near future for the convicted individuals.
