Authorities are investigating the death of a 41-year-old man in Thunder Bay, Ontario, following an incident at an apartment building over the weekend.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) disclosed that Thunder Bay police responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex near May Street South and Donald Street East. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a man in crisis inside one of the units. Concerned for his well-being when they learned he was having difficulty breathing, the officers entered the unit and provided immediate assistance.

Despite being rushed to a hospital, the man was later pronounced dead, as confirmed by investigators. While scant details have been released, the SIU has deployed a team comprising two investigators and one forensic expert to delve into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Notably, the SIU is an autonomous government entity tasked with scrutinizing instances involving officials that have led to fatalities, severe injuries, sexual assault, or the discharge of a firearm against an individual.
