“Mark Your Calendars: REM Line Set to Revolutionize Transit with Deux-Montagnes Launch on November 17!”

Starting from November 17th, commuters in Montreal will have a new and eagerly anticipated transportation option with the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) trains now connecting downtown Montreal to Deux-Montagnes on the North Shore.

The launch of this new branch will expand the REM network by adding 14 stations, enhancing public transit accessibility for residents and visitors alike. Presently, the REM serves five stations between Montreal and Brossard on the South Shore.

Riders can look forward to three connections to the Montreal metro along the new line, with some bus routes being adjusted to integrate seamlessly with the REM system.

Service will commence daily around 5:30 a.m. from both Brossard and Deux-Montagnes, ensuring convenient travel options for commuters. Evening service will terminate at Côte-de-Liesse station to allow for continued testing in preparation for the forthcoming Anse-à-l’Orme branch opening on the west side of Montreal Island next spring.

The inauguration of the Deux-Montagnes branch has faced delays, mainly due to the intricate work involved in the Mount Royal tunnel. The REM network is projected to grow to 26 stations covering a distance of 67 km, with a planned connection to Montreal-Trudeau Airport expected to be operational by 2027.

The overall cost of the REM project is estimated to be $9.4 billion, surpassing the initial 2018 forecast by $2.4 billion.
