“Surge in Quebec Doctors Fleeing to Ontario and New Brunswick for Work, Bill 2 Sparks Exodus”

The contentious Bill 2 introduced by the CAQ government in Quebec has sparked a wave of concern as about 100 Quebec doctors are making arrangements to depart the province. Recent data reveals that a significant number of doctors are seeking to relocate to Ontario and New Brunswick, with the College of Physicians in both provinces reporting an influx of applications from Quebec doctors since October. The Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec has also been notified by 26 family doctors of their intentions to leave the profession.

The Quebec federation of medical specialists is preparing to challenge Bill 2, which mandates a new physician remuneration system and prohibits certain negotiation tactics. The bill, criticized for infringing on individual freedoms, was rushed through the National Assembly despite opposition.

Quebec’s political leaders, including Quebec Liberal leader Pablo Rodriguez and Quebec Solidaire House Leader Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, have expressed deep concerns over the potential impact of doctors leaving the province. Rodriguez labeled the situation as a “disaster,” while Cliche-Rivard warned of adverse effects on thousands of Quebecers. Urging doctors to stay within the healthcare network, both leaders hope for a resolution to the ongoing crisis.

To voice their discontent and advocate for change, doctors are organizing a large rally at the Bell Centre on November 9.
