Toronto authorities are in search of a suspect accused of defrauding two individuals in a credit card scam totaling $25,000. The incidents occurred on separate dates, with the suspect posing as a bank employee in phone calls to the victims.
In the first case on October 1, 2025, a Toronto resident was contacted by the suspect who claimed to be from a bank and stated that their credit card was compromised. The victim was then duped into handing over the card to a courier in the Cosburn and Pape avenues area. The suspect intercepted the card from the courier and proceeded to make purchases amounting to $11,000 at a jewellery store in Mississauga.
A similar occurrence took place on October 3, 2025, where another resident was targeted by the suspect, resulting in a credit card being picked up in The East Mall and Evans Avenue area. The card was used to buy jewellery worth $14,000 from a Mississauga store.
Identified as Madjid Benmaou, a 20-year-old from Montreal, the suspect faces numerous charges, including fraud over $5,000 and the use of a credit card obtained through illegal means. Authorities believe he may be in possession of a black Dodge pick-up truck with Quebec license plate AKJ52Z, and has connections to Quebec and Mississauga.
