York Regional Police have cracked down on illegal gambling activities with the arrest of nine individuals following a two-year investigation spanning multiple jurisdictions. The operation, known as Project Scala, launched in 2024 to target illicit gambling operations in Vaughan and Toronto. Working closely with South Simcoe Police Service, authorities pinpointed suspects involved in monetary collections at these illegal establishments.
During the investigation, search warrants were executed at various locations, including gaming houses, residences, a storage locker, a business, and vehicles. Authorities seized a range of items such as gaming machines, currency, controlled substances, alcohol, and even a crypto wallet. The operation resulted in the charging of individuals aged between 27 and 70 from Toronto, Vaughan, Cambridge, Tottenham, and Innisfil with various gaming-related offenses. It’s important to note that the allegations against these individuals remain unproven in court.
