“New Era Begins: Pattullo Bridge Replacement Set for Grand Opening This Saturday!”

Metro Vancouver’s long-awaited Riverview Bridge, set to replace the Pattullo Bridge, is finally ready to open its four lanes to traffic this weekend. The bridge, known as stal̕əw̓asəm, will officially open at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, linking Surrey and New Westminster.

The project, led by Fraser Crossing Partners, has faced years of construction challenges and setbacks, with intermittent partial openings and closures. Drivers will now be able to access the new bridge from McBride Boulevard and the Royal Avenue on-ramp in New Westminster, as well as King George Boulevard in Surrey.

The completion of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge marks the permanent closure of the aging Pattullo Bridge for vehicles, with the sidewalk remaining open for cyclists and pedestrians until Feb. 17.

Featuring modern design elements such as wider lanes, a center median barrier, and spacious walking and cycling paths in both directions, the new bridge aims to enhance connectivity and commuting experience for residents of New Westminster and Surrey.

The total project cost is estimated at $1.637 billion, with promises of improved road networks and connections for commuters on both sides of the bridge.
