Man arrested, charged after April shooting at Surrey home

Police say a man is in custody after a home in Surrey was the target of gunfire last month.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it responded to reports of shots fired near 95 Avenue and 127 Street around 2:50 a.m. on April 13.

No one was reported injured, but officers reportedly found a residence damaged by bullets.

At the time, the SPS says it was too early to determine motivation for the shooting, and investigators did not then connect the incident to extortion.

In an update Thursday, police say investigators identified a suspect vehicle and obtained a search warrant for a Surrey residence.

“One man was arrested during the execution of the warrant and is now charged with one Criminal Code offence,” said Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jaskaran Saroye is reportedly facing one count of discharging a firearm into a place, knowing or being reckless as to whether someone was present.

Police say he’ll remain in custody until his next court date on Tuesday.

The SPS says it is taking the additional step of releasing a photo of Saroye to help advance investigations into suspected violent extortion.

Saroye has not been charged with an extortion offence.

“SPS hopes that the public release of the image prompts additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding the activities of Jaskaran Saroye.”

Anyone with information on him is asked to contact the SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca if you wish to remain anonymous.

The SPS says suspect photos will be released on a case-by-case basis, if disclosure is necessary to further an investigation into a current crime.

As of Monday, the SPS says 96 extortion crimes have been reported in 2026, affecting 51 victims, including 16 shots fired and two arsons.
