A man has been charged with over 10 firearms and extortion-related offences that took place in Surrey and Abbotsford in December.
Twenty-two-year-old Gursewak Singh was first arrested by Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) in December for an extortion-related shooting at a business on King Road. He was identified by the vehicle he was driving and found by AbbyPD’s Gang Crime Unit.
On Dec. 14, at about 2:30 a.m., SPS Frontline officers responded to reports of shots fired at a business located on 120 Street in Surrey that had previously received extortion threats. On Dec. 15, at about 2:05 a.m., SPS frontline officers responded to a report of two vehicles on fire in a parking lot attached to a business on Old Yale Road that had received extortion threats.
Following an investigation by Surrey Police Services (SPS) Organized Crime unit along with AbbyPD, Singh was connected to the two incidents in Surrey and has now been charged with discharge of a firearm at a place, possession of a loaded prohibited weapon without a licence or registration, extortion using a firearm, occupying a vehicle knowing there was a firearm present, possession of a firearm without licence or registration, possession of a firearm knowing it was without a licence of registration, two counts of arson, and extortion.
Singh also faces the following charges in relation to the Abbotsford investigation: unlawfully discharging a firearm, extortion using a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, and occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm is present.
Singh has been detained by the court, and his next appearance is set for May 22.
