Drivers across the Montreal area could see some relief at the pumps overnight, with gas prices expected to drop by about nine cents per litre starting at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
The anticipated decrease is tied to growing market optimism that tensions involving the United States and Iran could ease, potentially leading to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
On Wednesday, regular gasoline prices remained high across the region, including 193.9 cents per litre at an Esso on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, 190.9 cents at a Petro-Canada on Curé-Labelle Boulevard in Laval, and 193.9 cents at an Ultramar on Jacques-Cartier Boulevard East in Longueuil.
Analysts caution that fuel price forecasts remain volatile and can shift quickly depending on geopolitical developments.
