Montrealers woke up to a rainy Saturday even as Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a thunderstorm alert for the region.
ECCC says dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are possible in afternoon and evening. Rain of 10 to 15 mm is expected during the day and another 10 mm is possible in the evening.
Forecasters are advising residents to stay indoors as the thunderstorm develops. The strong gusts could cause damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters.
Saturday’s daytime high will reach 22 Celsius, with humid conditions making it feel closer to 28 C.
Rain is expected to continue Saturday night before clearing late Sunday morning. Sunday’s forecast calls for a high of 22 C and a low of 13 C.
Sunshine returns Monday with a high of 26 C, followed by even warmer temperatures on Tuesday as the mercury climbs to 29 C under sunny skies.
The summer-like warmth is expected to begin midweek, with temperatures reaching 29 C on Wednesday despite a 60 per cent chance of showers. Thursday is forecast to have a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 30 C and night time low of 21 C.
Friday is expected to be even hotter with a high 33 C.
