A young man, aged 19, has been charged with weapon-related offenses following a disturbance in Vancouver’s lively Granville entertainment district in the early hours of Wednesday, as reported by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).
According to authorities, the incident unfolded at approximately 1:50 a.m. when the individual began causing a commotion by overturning tables at a store before brandishing a knife.
Upon trying to intervene, an employee was met with aggression as the suspect allegedly proceeded to stab the store’s sign.
After the employee promptly contacted the police, officers swiftly located a man resembling the suspect’s description just a couple of blocks away and apprehended him without any resistance.
Upon searching the suspect, a knife was discovered in his possession, leading to the subsequent charges.
The 19-year-old has been formally accused of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He is currently under custody awaiting a bail hearing.
