One death and several injured in a collision in Saint-Alban

An elderly woman succumbed to her injuries Saturday following a serious collision that injured several people in Saint-Alban, in the Capitale-Nationale region; Another passenger was seriously injured.

The accident occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Route 354 and Rang de l’Église, according to information from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The driver of an SUV with three passengers in it reportedly continued on the road while a pickup truck was traveling on Highway 354.

There was a stop sign on Rang de l’Église, but it was not yet known if the woman failed to stop or yield to the truck, said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the SQ.

The four occupants of the SUV, all elderly women, sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital.

One of the passengers in the back, an octogenarian, unfortunately succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital. The passenger sitting next to him at the time of the accident, a woman in her seventies, was still in critical condition.

The driver and passenger in the front of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Deshaies said.

An SQ reconstructionist is at the scene of the accident to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.

Route 354 at Rang de l’Église is currently closed to traffic in both directions.
