Chilliwack RCMP seeks witness after suspicious fire along Vedder River

The Chilliwack RCMP says it is looking for a witness who may have information or video footage related to a suspicious fire that was set along the Vedder River last week.

Police say they were called to the area of Rotary Trail near Peach Park on the afternoon of June 23 after a report of a fire involving river debris.

When they arrived, they found evidence indicating the blaze was intentionally set, and they were able to arrest one person at the scene, Mounties say.

Officers say they would like to get in touch with a man who may have valuable information about the incident.

“Investigators are seeking to identify and speak with a male witness who was in the area at the time of the fire and is believed to have captured video footage of the incident,” the RCMP said in a news release.

Police say the man provided the first name “Roger.”

Anyone who may have information or video of the incident — including footage of the witness — is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and refer to file 2026-26369.
