A construction worker was injured in a house fire that broke out at a home under construction in Mission on Thursday evening, according to police reports.
The incident occurred at a residence on Cherry Avenue where workers were in the process of renovating the deck. A container of vinyl adhesive caught fire, leading to the unfortunate accident.
The burning adhesive accidentally came into contact with one of the workers, causing him to fall from the deck to the concrete below. The 31-year-old individual from Chilliwack was rushed to the hospital with serious burns and injuries sustained from the fall.
Assistant Chief Nick Rychkun of Mission Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS) described the scene upon their arrival as a three-storey residential structure engulfed in flames, with the fire extending to the roof and interior main floors.
Fortunately, the homeowners escaped unharmed, and firefighters managed to rescue their two dogs amidst the chaos. Over 25 firefighters responded to the emergency call.
WorkSafeBC is now on-site to investigate the incident.
